Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region with unique features: breath-taking landscapes, towns rich in history and precious historic sites. It is a borderland between the sea and the Alps, where conquests and successions have left their traces through the centuries.
The town of Gradisca d’Isonzo lies in the wonderful Isonzo Karst region, with its unique landscapes: the moor, the suggestive caves and underground rivers, the woods and paths passing through the remains from World War I and other historic periods.
If you love nature, our land will surprise you with unique landscapes. Here you can hike, ride a bike along a network of cycle lanes or a mountain bike along the several paths running through the area: eastwards towards Gorizia and the Slovene border, westwards towards Palmanova and Cervignano, and southwards towards Redipuglia and the Natural Reserve of the Lakes of Doberdò or Pietrarossa (Monfalcone).
Next to Gradisca d’Isonzo is also the Collio region, the easternmost area of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which very famous for its wines. The Collio region produces the finest DOC wines. This area spreads for hectares on hills and small villages and offers wonderful landscapes of vines and green peaks. Here, you can fill your spirit with fresh air and green sceneries, and your body can find comfort in one of the many farms or vine cellars offering typical products, as well as the finest wines.
If you like discovering every single corner of the area you are visiting, you cannot miss the nearby border towns of Cormons and Gorizia. At a few kilometres from Hotel Franz, you can also visit historic towns such as Aquileia, Palmanova and Cividale del Friuli, or Trieste with its famous Miramare Castle, as well as Duino with its own splendid Castle and – why not? – Grado for a day at the seaside.
